Post 8: Fredensborg

Stort Bilde
Before the bombing - The house of captain Ellingsen
On the right was the house of captain Ellingsen. He was killed when the ship D/S Folden was hit by German bombers outside the island of Hestmannøy April 25 1940. The house which occupies this spot today, was erected for Nordland Privatbank during the German occupation.

On Your left lies the house "Fredensborg", giving the street its name. Originally the house reserved for the chief of police, but later on residence for the family Pettersen-Hagh. Although what You're looking at today is not the same house as the original "Fredensborg". Both "Fredensborg" and the house of captain Ellingsen burned to the ground after being hit by German firebombs.

"Fredensborg" today
Take left and follow Fredensborgveien in the direction of the hospital until the crossroad with Helliesensgate.
