Report: 50 Years with the Cold War |
||
June 3rd and 4th 1999 museum organized a conference with the title ”50 Years with the Cold War”. Now all the lectures are edited to articles and published. The book consists of fifteen essays, based on the lectures given at the conference in Bodø, June 1999. It was the 3rd conference on Cold War topics which the Aviation Museum hosted. The former being held in 1995 and 1996. This conference was somewhat special, though, it being organized on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the NATO alliance. The themes of the essays range from the origins of the Cold War in general, to why it ended; from Norway as an intelligence ally to the U2 spy-plane and satellites; from NATO’s nuclear strategy in the Northern Areas to the making of the Norwegian Air Force. The writers include, among others, Geir Lundestad, Constantine Pleshakov, James Hershberg and Dean C. Allard. The book is 192 pages long and costs NOK 149,- (app. US$ 20,-).
